About Us

The Dowerglen Dental practice focuses on general dentistry (conservative direct composite restorations, endodontic treatment, minor oral surgery, removable and fixed prosthodontics, teeth whitening and oral hygiene) and cosmetic dentistry (crowns, bridges, veneers and the prosthodontic phase of implantology).

Dr Tarana Garach graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2011. She has a keen interest in periodontal therapy and surgeries, and completed her masters with the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology in 2018.

She has also done courses in Facial aesthetics (with the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine South Africa), Implant placement and Laser therapy.

While there is no substitute for hands-on experience, dentistry is a profession which is constantly innovating with new technologies, techniques and materials being introduced on a regular basis. To stay abreast of all the newest clinical techniques a dentist has to attend yearly refresher courses and seminars, and continually read up on the latest information in the dental journals.

The field of dentistry has also become far too vast and specialised for any one dentist to attempt to master or specialise in all the disciplines. To allow our patients to have access to the best possible treatment options we have built up a referral network of specialist orthodontists, prosthodontists, maxillo-facial surgeons and periodontists with whom we collaborate and refer to.

 Dr Tarana Garach

Tarana is originally from sunny Durban, but moved to Johannesburg to complete her dentistry degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. Soon after, she joined the university once more, in a teaching capacity, assisting in training of dental students.

In her spare time she paints, spends time with family and occasionally experiments in the kitchen.

 Cathy Cian

Cathy has been involved with dentistry for most of her working life, and over the years she has gained vast experience of working in a dental practice as a dental assistant, receptionist and office manager. She has been a part of the Dowerglen practice since its relocation to Edenvale from Braamfontein.

As office manager she is an integral part of the practice as she manages the reception, as well as doing chairside assisting duties.  Cathy thoroughly enjoys her work at the practice and has got on very well with the various dentists who have worked at the practice over the years. With her very friendly disposition she has got to know many of her patients on a first-name basis.

For relaxation she is a regular at the gym, and she now has much fun-time as a young gran.

 Esther

My name is Esther. I am married with three children. I am from Gauteng. I enjoy cooking and baking. I also enjoy spending time with my family. I am a very dedicated dental nurse. I enjoy my work as I have a gentle and fun personality. I use it to help change patients' mindsets of the dental environment as a scary place. My purpose is also to help patients to have good oral hygiene.
